March 5, 2021

March 1st officially marked the start to Women's History Month, which commemorates and encourages the study, observation and celebration of the vital role of women in American History.  What was once only deemed National Women's History Week in 1978, was finally declared the whole month of March as Women's History Month in 1987 by Congress.  Looking at it from a woman's point of view (yes me), I feel disappointed that it took SO long to get a whole month out of Congress... but if I've learned anything out of "Covid 2020", it's to appreciate what we have, there are far more deeper struggles in the world that need our attention.

To kick of Women's History Month, there are plenty of virtual programs to watch that look amazing and will be running all month long.  Check out PBS, which has a month long calendar of streaming events.  Also https://womenshistorymonth.gov has an eclectic lineup of highlights to choose from...AND look under Film & TV below for more inspiration...

Even before the pandemic, women earned just 82 cents for every dollar earned by men. The recession hit women-dominated industries—including restaurants, retail and healthcare—hardest, and many women have chosen to leave paying jobs to take care of children.
