Homes & Happenings

in Marin County

Happy New Year, lets embrace all of our challenges and make 2025 a great one! 🎉

In 2024, the median house sales price rose year over year, with an increase in new listings and sales compared to 2023, though volumes remained below long-term norms. Luxury home sales, fueled by rising stock markets, strongly outperformed the general market. Overbidding decreased slightly, and listings took longer to sell on average.

Macroeconomic trends were mixed. Inflation dropped from 3.1% to 2.7%, and the Fed reduced its benchmark rate for the first time in four years, followed by two more cuts. However, interest rates rose unexpectedly, ending the year higher than when it began. Stock markets appreciated significantly, boosting household wealth and consumer confidence, which ended 6% higher than a year earlier.

Real estate markets remained seasonal, with December the slowest month. Activity typically rebounds in early spring, though conditions depend on weather and broader economic factors. A new year often brings renewed optimism and real estate plans.
