Hello, October!
Welcome Fall, Halloween, Harvest, and Monarch Butterflies return!! My favorite season, in my school days, we used to cut school in the fall and ride our bikes everywhere, with less traffic and less fog. There are so many events I will be sending out another newsletter this month. I want to go to all of these events there is also a monster festival I would love to go to, see below for info! Oct 17 is our earthquake anniversary and I have included a link to my telling of that day. Talk soon!! |

Many people may not realize how severely Santa Cruz County was affected by the October 17, 1989 earthquake. While the devastation in areas like the Marina, Embarcadero, Bay Bridge, and the Cypress Structure is often highlighted, Santa Cruz faced challenges. The quake resulted in seven fatalities and over 800 injuries in the county. Additionally, more than 4,500 residents were displaced, leading to a homelessness crisis in one of the county’s agricultural regions and significantly changing downtown Santa Cruz.
Where were you on October 17th, 1989? If you were in Santa Cruz, you would recall a very jarring experience! If you have not experienced an earthquake, you can live through mine without having to! Watch my video below: |

First Downtown Harvest Festival coming soon:
The Santa Cruz Community Farmers’ Markets is launching the inaugural Downtown Santa Cruz Harvest Festival from noon to 5 p.m. on Oct. 5 on Lincoln Street between Cedar Street and Pacific Avenue. Think of a sweet version of county fair meets a school fair but, filled with local farms and businesses. Event officials will be throwing up tents, flipping pupusas, popping popcorn, stacking hay bales and setting up a slew of silly, throw-back games and fun activities. Carnival games like striker, dime toss, corn hole and foosball as well as a dunk tank raising money for the Second Harvest Food Bank. There will also be wreath making, a pumpkin sale supporting the Santa Cruz High girls basketball team, bouquet making with Sea to Sky Farm, live music, the Rhythm Rangellers. Food options will be plentiful.
This is a brand new event should be fun!! What I love is this is a community event for all ages it is on my calendar!
