Memorial Day I'm enjoying a much needed holiday weekend in the desert ... I will spend my time leisurely wading in the heated pool, sipping on a chilled cocktail while balancing myself on a raft. My children, on the other hand, will inevitably try to splash me with dedicated purpose and chant in (not) melodious voices "NOT IT MOM"! For some unknown reason (earplugs), I will elude their voices for a bit, and try to enjoy myself and my cocktail(s). But, truly, I'm looking forward to splashing back! And it will be a joy to have this break from zoom school and the tedious LA traffic. Although we will be enjoying this 3-day weekend with family, friends, and BBQ's (safely), let's not forget what Memorial Day is for: it honors military personnel who died in the service of their country. After the Civil War, the custom of decorating the graves of soldiers with flowers became part of the ritual originally called Decoration day. In 1915, inspired by the poem “In Flanders Fields,” Moina Michael replied with her own poem:
"We cherish too, the Poppy red that grows on fields where valor led, It seems to signal to the skies That blood of heroes never dies." There are several events this weekend that honor our fallen soldiers either in person or virtually:
Santa Monica Symphony - Live Stream - chamber music by Bach, Brahms and others. May 31st @ 2 p.m. Sunday. Free; advance registration required (registration ends at 10 a.m. Sunday). smsymphony.org
USS Iowa - San Pedro - virtual Memorial Day service will be streaming May 31 at 10am Burbank - Condor Squadron Flyover, in addition to the traditional Ceremony of the Rose. You can see the event on the city's YouTube channel, by clicking here. May 31 @ 11am

Still, the majority--61%—of buyers expect home searches to become more difficult or stay the same in the future. But why are some buyers more hopeful?
