Chaos, or Opportunity?

The Cedarcroft manor, one of the most storied homes of the Philadelphia area, is on the market. This National Historic Landmark was built in 1859 by the renowned travel writer and Civil War journalist Bayard Taylor near his childhood home in Kennett Square. In its heyday, many of the great literary minds of the time were hosted in its halls. The carousing known to take place at Cedarcroft aggravated the local quaker community, the very same community Taylor came from as a boy.

In 1905, the manor would serve as a preparatory academy for boys in the area. When the academy sold in 1917, the manor and land were purchased as a pet project and family home by James Bachelor Dowsland Edge, the man who would become a top executive at du Pont. More impressive restorations began in 1971, a year before Cedarcroft was registered as a National Historic Landmark.

This impressive historic property, with 164 years of experience weathering the ups and downs of very turbulent times, has remained a valuable estate. Opposed to popular sentiment and headlines, the owner of Cedarcroft chose to put the property on the market. They recognized the opportunity to buy such a significant property is stronger than popular sentiment around current market conditions. While chaos and flashy headlines draw the masses, it is from these uncertain situations that innovative solutions are created.

The solutions exist for all of us to benefit from this opportunity, not just the Cedarcrofts out there. Will you sit and wait, or get a head start on the spring market?
