Remote Work Brings the City to the Suburbs
Most city attractions (plays, nightclubs, restaurants) shut down in the Spring of 2020. Space took on a premium, as small apartments with neighbors felt claustrophobic, and suddenly a large home in the suburbs for the same monthly price as a small urban dwelling became very attractive. More companies than ever are allowing employees to work from home; an estimated 13% - 45% of the workforce is now at least partially remote. The number of net new households that moved to the suburbs grew 43% last year, according to data from the Wall Street Journal, compared to 2019. View details here, courtesy of Vox.
