I have been splitting my time between Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Bedford NY, plus mini getaways to the Finger Lakes, the Berkshires, and the Hamptons - it's been the perfect combination of business, fun, and family. With so many special East Coast towns within 1-4 hours of the city and Northern Westchester, the options are endless.

The Outdoor, Rooftop Terrace

According to Houzz Emerging Summer Trends, searches for “outdoor rooftop terrace” have recently increased by 1,555 percent. The Brooklyn Heights property I represented for sale this summer had a very special rooftop terrace and several interested buyers so I'm not surprised by this trend. Walk the Brooklyn Bridge

The upper level of the Brooklyn Bridge is for pedestrians only, so it's a treat to to walk on a Summer day and capture a breeze.  My dad recently joined me for work and lunch in Brooklyn Heights, followed by a walk on the bridge to the lower east side of Manhattan.  The walk (one direction) is approximately 1.6 miles in length, between the Manhattan and Brooklyn entrance points. Read more here, courtesy of New York Like a Native. 

"Linner" on a Friday Afternoon

I love a leisurely, and spontaneous "Linner" (that's when Lunch meets Dinner) on a Summer Friday, especially when it's at Emilio’s Ballato (55 E Houston St, New York, NY). It feels like a trip to Italy without the jet lag.  Dad loves it too. No reservations, It's open from 12pm - 11pm daily (until 12am on Fridays/Saturdays). Details here.

The Tenement Museum on Orchard Street (Manhattan)

Tour a recreated tenement apartment and learn about life and challenges faced by Jewish immigrant mothers in 1902, including how the women asserted their rights and inspired future generations. Details here.

Madison James Flyaway Sticks

These flyaway sticks are a summer staple for the yard and porch - they discourage mosquitoes, horseflies, hornets, and flies, and I love their scent of cedar, geranium and clove... they make every occasion feel (and smell) special. Sold at many fine stores and online, but I like to purchase mine at La Maison Fete in Bedford, NY.

Au Pair Services in the US
