Notables & Quotables | February Edition |
| The month of love has arrived, and with it comes a burst of energy that sweeps us off our feet. I'm excited to dive into the launch of my first edition of Notables & Quotables where I explore a bit of whimsy and intrigue in architecture and design, embracing both the residential and commercial realms of real estate. My goal is to spark curiosity and enjoyment in the design that surrounds you at home and in the world. Here are 5 favorites that got me "stirring the brain". |

| Interiors | The Lavish "At-Home Bar" Where Staying In, is the New Going Out |
| Staying in is the new going out, so why not up the ante with an in-home bar to rival your favorite neighborhood watering hole? Having your own lounge or speakeasy means you get to choose the music and mood (no more overplayed songs or over-served strangers to kill the vibe), and if the party’s going strong, there’s no racing against the clock to make the most of your night. For many, a standard rolling cart is a good entry point, but if you’re a die-hard home mixologist, fancy yourself an entertaining aficionado, or just want the option to enjoy a cocktail in private luxury, leveling up with a dedicated, built-in space is the next logical step. And according to designers across the country, there has been an uptick in this type of request. |

| Commercial Design | Port Authority of NY Gets a $10 Billion Makeover |

| It has taken a full decade to conceive, but a $10 billion transformation of New York City’s dreary main bus terminal may get rolling in the next few months. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which operates the terminal, unveiled an updated design for its replacement on Thursday. Instead of the dismal, brick hulk that has darkened two full blocks of Midtown Manhattan for more than 70 years, there would be a bright, modern transit hub topped by two office towers. |

| | Interiors | The "Snug" Room is the New Den |

| “Small rooms set the mind on the right path. Large ones cause it to go astray,” wrote Leonardo da Vinci 500 years ago. And though open-concept floor plans have dominated home design for half a century, designers and their customers are recognizing the old polymath was on to something. A capacious living-dining-kitchen room can feel lonely and uninviting, even unmooring. “My clients have started saying, ‘It doesn’t make sense to hang out in the great room when it’s just me or a few of us,’” said Cathy Purple Cherry, an architect and interior designer in Annapolis, Md. The design solution: a British-style “snug,” a small sitting room that’s akin to a den, cozily walled-off and made for reading, solitary relaxation or an intimate event. |

| | Interior Design | Benjamin Moore Color of 2024 - Blue Nova |

“We are still seeing designers being brave with color,” says Andrea Magno, Benjamin Moore's color marketing and development director. When it came to honing in on one definitive color, Benjamin Moore selected Blue Nova (825) as its Color of the Year 2024. Blue Nova—a celestial “new star,” as Magno calls it—is rooted in nature’s blue hour, the time of day just after sunset when the sky takes on a deep blue, almost purplish haze just above the fiery topaz of the remaining sun’s rays. “It’s a captivating, otherworldly color that is kind of magical and can elevate the everyday,” she says. |
