This building has been a personal labor of love which I have slowly renovated over a period of 37 years. It is a very unique structure and once served as housing for Samuel B. Brodbeck's businesses, including a creamery, general store, and post office. It was often called the "old landmark" by workers on the Western Maryland Railroad line as they passed by. It has many unique architectural features including deep set stone windowsills, brick floors on the basement level, a 60 ft. balcony on the second floor, and an exposed brick chimney on the third level. After purchase, I was able to have it added to the National Historic Register which would have provided funding throughout the renovation process. Shortly after, much of the upper level was destroyed in an arsonist fire. This damage was completely renovated with a new pitched roof to replace the original mansard style roof. However, this disqualified the project for funding. Most recently, a tree damaged the roof which we are in the process of having assessed for an insurance claim. I am retired and no longer have the energy for the project. It is my hope that someone who can see the building's potential will bring new life to the property. This is an ideal opportunity for renovation as there are two completed units to rent or live in as the third unit is completed. The garage can also serve as a workshop. It was formerly the Brodbecks Post Office and is set up for heat. Please come take a look for more information!
