125 East 74th Street, situated mid block on this quiet tree-lined street between Park and Lexington, was built in the neo – Italian Renaissance style by renowned architect Lafayette A. Best known for his work at 640 Park Avenue and 730 Park Avenue, his design of this nine-story apartment building replaced three row houses. With its one-story rusticated limestone base, Corinthian style inlaid limestone pillars reaching to the third floor and iron balconies on the second floor, Lafayette’s design seamlessly blended into this Italianate and neo-Grec style row-house block. Unfortunately many of the original row houses have either been demolished or stripped of their original detail. A number of them were taken down to allow for the arrival of the prestigious Buckley School. The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, still remains and retains its beautiful Victorian Gothic style. It's interesting to note that Jacqueline Bouvier "Jackie O" spent her early years living at 125 East 74th Street before going off to private school as a teenager.
