Thomas DeVoss AIA, LEED comes to Compass from a career in architecture and design and 8 years as a realtor at Deasy Penner.
As an architect, Thomas has designed additions and renovations for some of Los Angeles’ most architecturally significant properties, including houses by mid-century masters Smith and Williams, Richard Banta, and H.H. Harris.
Thomas’s extensive experience with the design-build process and knowledge of zoning and building codes make him an invaluable resource and partner for clients buying or selling a significant property, or one that may require special vision. As an architect, Thomas strongly believes that good design can make your life better. As your REALTOR®, Thomas hopes to connect you to your perfect property.
Growing up in Sherman Oaks and having lived all over Los Angeles, Thomas’s property knowledge stretches from Malibu to Joshua Tree, with special emphasis on the Hollywood Hills, Los Feliz, Echo Park, Silver Lake, and San Fernando Valley.
As an architect,Tom worked as a designer at Gehry Partners on the Guggenheim Museum in Abu Dhabi, the Barclays Arena for the Brooklyn Nets, and the Atlantis Sentosa Resort in Singapore. More recently as Senior Designer for Canopy, Thomas has worked on stadiums all over the world, including Dodger Stadium, Loan Depot Park, Chelsea's Stamford Bridge, and Qatar's Education City Stadium.
He also served as Project Manager at New West Land Company, developing conservation-based master plans for tens of thousands of acres of Hawaii, Nebraska, Idaho, Colorado, California, and Italy.
Tom earned his Bachelor in Classics from Georgetown University in 2002 and studied abroad at Cornell’s architecture school in Rome. He received his Masters of Architecture from Washington University in St. Louis in 2006, where he was awarded the Joe Chole Traveling Fellowship to study the bridges of Iberia and Japan.
Tom is the co-author of The Future of Smart Cities and You; Urban Prototyping (2012) and his designs have been published in Innovative Infrastructure; Transit Solutions for Los Angeles, Wall Street Journal, Curbed, Mountain Living Magazine, Country Living Magazine, and exhibited at the Venice Biennale.
Tom was born in Bangkok, raised in Los Angeles, and lives in Echo Park, California. In addition to being a licensed California REALTOR®, Tom is a LEED-certified, AIA-licensed architect and maintains his own practice designing environmentally-friendly modern residences and renovating and restoring architecturally significant buildings.
