About Sam
My Northstar story began when I arrived in Tahoe full-time in January 1988, after falling in love with the mountains and Lake Tahoe as a “weekend warrior” during my years in San Francisco. As is often the case with Tahoe residents, I was attracted to the area for the winters but stayed because of the summers.
My real estate career began in 1989 as a rental agent in Tahoe City for one of the largest property management firms. I quickly transitioned to real estate sales and have been an active, full-time real estate agent since 1990, listing and selling homes, condominiums, and vacant parcels from Tahoe’s west and north shores to Truckee, Incline Village, and Reno. More recently, my wife Trina Padden and I were owners/brokers of Padden Properties, a boutique real estate brokerage specializing in Northstar and North Lake Tahoe area properties.
I’m a licensed real estate broker in both Nevada and California and my long professional experience provides my clients with the confidence, information, and assurances they need to make clear and wise decisions.
An active member of the local communities, I’m a past president of the Tahoe Sierra Board of Realtors® and Multiple Listing Service and am only the fifth recipient of the “Bud Jones Distinctive Service Award.” Currently, I serve as the Local Government Relations committee chair and sit on the Executive Committee for all Board Business. Finally, I am also a past president of the local North Lake Tahoe Kiwanis International chapter.
Lastly, I was also a teacher in the Incline Village and Truckee-North Tahoe schools. Now a “recovering English and History teacher,” I still get a kick out of hearing, “Mr. D, do you remember me?” from past students.
After more than 30 years of living at Lake Tahoe, Trina and I still live on Tahoe’s north shore with our golden doodle, Apple. Like most other Tahoe residents, we’re very active and enjoy skiing, mountain and road cycling, camping, golf, paddle boarding, and yoga. We even attend the occasional music festival and have been to Burning Man many times.
