About Paul
Since 2010 Paul has specialized exclusively on the Brooklyn townhouse market. Paul brings a
wealth of brokerage, marketing and analytical experience to this work. Committed to his clients’
success, Paul is known for his warmth, work ethic, analytical skills and negotiating savvy. He
knows how to listen, how to ask the right questions, and how to get a deal done successfully.
Paul has published his Brooklyn Townhouse Report since 2010, with over 250 reports issued to
date and thousands of townhouses photographed and analyzed.
Paul’s passion for real estate includes a sideline buying and renovating townhouses. Having bought, gut renovated, and sold three historic townhouses, Paul now owns and leases two multi-family brownstones. Paul understands what it takes to find a diamond in the rough and transform a wreck into a showplace, even in trying economic times. He also knows how to bring buyers and sellers together, drawing upon a strong network of contractors, architects, engineers, suppliers, and other real estate professionals that he gladly shares with his clients to ensure a seamless deal.
Paul got his first brokerage and sales experience in Moscow, Russia, where he helped build a freight forwarding company specialized in providing air and ocean freight services to and from Russia. Following this entrepreneurial endeavor, he acquired an entirely different set of corporate skills at American Express, where he held manager and director-level marketing and product development positions for 10 years.
Prior to that, Paul completed an MBA at Columbia Business School, where he was awarded the Bronfman Fellowship, a merit fellowship covering the full cost of tuition. He holds a B.A. in Russian Studies and History from Northwestern University, where he graduated with Honors, Distinction, and Phi Beta Kappa. Paul lives in Cobble Hill, where he is involved in his latest renovation project.
★★★★★
"When we needed to list the townhouse that has been in my family for 100 years, I interviewed 6 real estate agents over three days. Paul’s presentation was demonstrably the most professional and knowledgeable of all the candidates and made my ultimate decision to select him as our broker easy and straightforward. His insights into the market regarding pricing of the house, timing of the showings, and his overall strategy were outstanding and well-informed. The entire process of listing the house to the successful final closing went as smoothly as one could hope. Paul was available at every point along the way, skillfully guiding me and always keeping me informed and updated. I could not more strongly recommend him as a real estate broker."
★★★★★
"Paul Murphy's enthusiasm for our property, and his understanding - born of his market knowledge and fresh research he conducted - of how it compared to other properties listed or recently sold, were in themselves highly impressive. That he also worked tirelessly to show the house to prospective buyers, and communicated his passion for it so well, helped us realize a tremendous record price."
★★★★★
"The successful sale of our brownstone happened in large part due to the expertise, professionalism and perceptiveness of our broker Paul Murphy. Paul was there whenever we needed him, answered all our questions (and there were many), and exceeded all our expectations, negotiating a purchase price far beyond anything we could have dared imagine. We are beyond satisfied."
★★★★★
"Paul Murphy is a true townhouse expert, and proved more insightful and knowledgeable about the townhouse market than anyone else we met. Paul provided helpful guidance on how to prepare our house for sale, and gave us detailed reports on the buyers and brokers he showed it to. At one point we were ready to accept an offer but Paul encouraged us to hold out for more, and we got it!"
