About Libby
Libby Ryan has been working in real estate since 1994, navigating through several tumultuous markets in over 3 decades. The overall trend in Brooklyn has been upwards, which Libby attributes to the fact that our neighborhoods are filled with people who live here full-time, send their children to our schools and, increasingly, work here. The roots we put down make for authentic neighborhoods, in direct contrast with the trend in Manhattan toward absentee ownership.
Libby’s specialty and passion is in Brooklyn townhouses. From brownstones, limestones, brick, and clapboard houses to small South Slope frame to majestic Brooklyn Heights Federal style, she represents all neighborhoods and styles in between. Her expertise comes from representing both buyers and sellers in hundreds of such transactions. From fully renovated to homes needing work from its next owners, Libby helps every step of the way--and loves doing so.
Co-op and condo apartments have also made up a large part of Libby’s real estate practice. The approval process can be tricky, as are renovation requirements, but Libby offers guidance throughout. Many of her clients have exchanged townhouses for apartments and apartments for townhouses. Those complex transactions can be challenging because there are so many parties involved, all with different needs. Libby thrives in that situation.
Libby served for 10 years on the Landmarks Commission, appointed by Mayor Bloomberg, which lends an additional area of expertise in navigating her often-Landmarked listings. She now serves on the board of the Prospect Park Alliance, working to preserve and maintain Brooklyn's backyard.
In 2014 she formed a partnership with Maria Ryan, and together they formed the 4-person Ryan + Ryan Team, which has grown within Compass as a top Brooklyn team with over $950mm in sales. They were named the #2 Small Team in Brooklyn and in the Top 50 Teams in New York State by the Wall Street Journal Real Trends.
Libby lived in a Third Street townhouse in Park Slope for 33 years with her husband; they raised two sons there. Today they are loving apartment living at the Richard Meier building on Grand Army Plaza. They also spend time in Bellport, L.I. Libby has a BA from Muhlenberg College and an MBA from Cornell University.
