Mara Isbey

Licensed Associate Real Estate Broker
About Mara
Mara's success in real estate doesn't surprise the people who know her. She has been involved in sales from starter studios to multi-million dollar properties as a member of the nationally-acclaimed Vickey Barron Team for more than a decade. During this time, the team won numerous awards every year, including #2 team in NYC and #8, nationally in 2018.

Moving quickly up the real estate ladder, Mara became a fully licensed NYS broker only a year after becoming an agent. (Some agents never advance beyond the entry level license.) As a member of the Real Estate Board of New York (REBNY), Mara is active on the Residential Brokerage Sales Council which works to promote best business practices and address industry-wide issues. She is also a Certified Negotiation Expert (CNE®) and has the skills to be a savvy and tenacious negotiator for her customers.

She has helped customers to buy, sell, and rent properties across Manhattan from Battery Park City to Hudson Heights and from river to river, in addition to Brooklyn. The processes to buy and sell in NYC can be daunting, but Mara is a seasoned guide to smooth the way.

Mara earned her NYC broker's license after a very successful career at IBM. She started as a systems engineer and advanced through technical, marketing, education and business development leadership roles for which she received numerous awards and accolades. She often guest-lectured for IBM's global customers at IBM venues including at the prestigious Executive Conference Center in New York, attended largely by corporate senior executives.

"At IBM, I sold highly customized solutions to global companies in a highly competitive environment. In that way, the work was similar to selling real estate in New York City. The biggest difference is that I can now focus on the individual, rather than the company."

Mara's customers know that she measures her success by their success. Most unique to Mara, as a real estate professional, is "the Isbey advantage" she brings: her skills in real estate, marketing, and business, as well as her concern, patience, personal commitment, enthusiasm and support. Mara also prides herself on listening to her customers, keeping them informed, and earning their trust as an advisor. She knows New York and the nuances of the NYC real estate market. And she is expert at developing winning strategies.

Although she has extensive technical, marketing and sales skills, Mara focuses these skills and her time on what's important, rather than on promoting herself. "There's only so much time in the day. I choose to focus that time on my customers and their needs." So it's not surprising that over 95% of her business is from referrals and repeat customers.

Mara enjoys the advantages of being on the Vickey Barron Team, which excels in many areas, among them, creative marketing and social media. Team members also share skills and experience for the benefit of all customers in dealing with the challenges of NYC real estate.

Born and raised in New York, Mara has lived, attended schools and worked in neighborhoods across the city. From early childhood, she was placed in gifted education programs and is a graduate of Hunter College High School and Barnard College, Columbia University. She doesn't generally tell people that she's also a member of MENSA, but we think you should know.

When not working in real estate, Mara focuses on the personal and intellectual needs of people she can help. As a volunteer, Mara has led lively, insightful film discussions at the Riverdale Senior Center. She is the founder and leader of the Film and Book Club, in existence since 2003. She is a member of the Barnard College Club of New York, has served on the Cultural Events Subcommittee of the Barnard College Project Continuum, and has been a volunteer for the Barnard College office of Development.

Mara approaches challenges with knowledge, determination, intelligence and a positive attitude. And she loves every minute of it.
