"Kate Leonard ably served as my realtor for this recent purchase in Newport. I have purchased numerous residential and commercial properties in many markets across the country, represented by deeply experienced agents from the largest and most reputable realty firms. Kate measures up well against the very best I have worked with. She is bright, brings expansive knowledge and experience and is refreshingly, brutally honest. She has my highest recommendation." - Andrew

About Kate
Kate has been involved in real estate and construction, including restoration of historic homes since the age of twenty-three when she lived and worked in Connecticut. Born in Roanoke, Virginia, she moved to Connecticut at an early age. She earned a B.S. degree and further master’s degrees while working in the field of education. In 1995 she moved to Newport, Rhode Island full-time and was elected to the Newport City Council a few months later. Since this time, she has been on the City Council, except for two short terms. Her ward encompasses an expansive land area of Newport from the Newport Bridge out to Ocean Drive, including Bellevue Avenue, Thames, and Spring street as well as the streets surrounding and abutting these areas.

After buying and selling her properties for years, she joined Lila Delman Compass in 2008 to share her love and expertise of real estate with clients. What singles her out as a successful Realtor® is her knowledge of city zoning ordinances, permitting, and historic district and planning regulations, as well as the diversity of neighborhoods throughout Newport and Aquidneck Island. Kate’s many terms on the Newport City Council have given her extensive knowledge on the permitting process used by RI CRMC and DEM. Being able to navigate those agencies to gather adequate information for clients is often very important to both buyers and sellers of waterfront properties.

Kate also understands and has a vast knowledge of construction and materials. She just completed a historic restoration of an 1845 Greek Revival Sea Captain’s home in Martha’s Vineyard. She is a resident homeowner in the Ocean Drive area.

Kate has listed and sold properties in all price ranges. She has helped buyers focus and choose properties that fit their needs and wants. Her range of sales has included the sale of historic Belcourt Castle as well as the modern contemporary called “The Twigs.” She was the top volume producer for the Newport office for 2016 and amongst the top ten producers company-wide in 2017. She was again the top volume producer for the Newport office for 2018.
